I’m Not Your AI Coach

I’m Not Your AI Coach
Algorithms are for optimization; humans are for transformation. Why I’m betting on coaching through passion and empathy over AI prompts. After 25 years in leadership and with my experience as a coach, I've learned that the most complex human challenges don't have an AI prompt. They need the intuition and partnership of a trusted human coach.

After more than two decades of managing teams and working alongside leadership and execs, I've seen every management and technology trend come and go. What stuck with me wasn't the software or the systems, but the people. My background spans startups, consulting, EdTech, and big tech, but my real focus has always been on how we actually support the humans behind it all. That's why I have become passionate about coaching—to take everything I learned in those 25 years and put the human element back at the center.

In this fast-paced age of Artificial Intelligence, with all the opportunities and uncertainty it creates, I'm building a space to deconstruct the 'Human-First' approach to coaching. This will be a mix of critical reflections, coaching breakthroughs that no bot could easily navigate, and an honest look at how we maintain our humanity in a digital-first world.

Beyond the Prompt

Don't get me wrong. I love AI. I use it daily for ideation, for coding, and a dozen other purposes that increase my productivity and learning. At the same time, I am also realistic about its limitations (more on that in later posts). With all the benefits AI provides, I am a firm believer that the most precious commodity we'll be judged by is not prompt engineering—a marketable skill today, no doubt—but the social skills that actually set us apart. We are, after all, social beings.

But there is a deeper purpose to this topic. In a world of algorithms and data models, I find that the tangible, messy, and complex human problems don't have an effective AI prompt, compared to the intuition and partnership of a trusted coach.

A Partner in Growth

As a hiring manager who conducted hundreds of interviews, I am no stranger to the AI landscape. You can give me all the AI tools the world can produce. I'll use them to leverage their insights. But the cold hard truth is that I am the human who decides if you get hired—not a bot.

My coaching philosophy is no different. It is rooted in 25 years of professional experience—from the discipline of the military to the complexity of various levels of leadership, but it's tempered by the perspective of 20 years as a father and over a decade as a youth coach, volunteer, and mentor. It is also anchored in my formal training as an Erickson International Trained Coach, and the International Coaching Federation (ICF) standards.

I'm here for the real conversations a bot can't have.

I am not an AI coach; I am 100% human—a partner in our human growth.
